Storyline

In the year 2043, scavenger James Cole (Aaron Stanford) has been recruited by a team of "Project Splinter" scientists led by physicist Katarina Jones (Barbara Sukowa), to travel back in time to the year 2015, and stop the release of a deadly virus by the enigmatic organization known as the "Army of the 12 Monkeys". In Cole's original time-line, the virus caused a plague that resulted in the death of seven billion humans in the year 2017, and its on-going mutations will mean the eventual end of the human race. In the 2015 time-line, Cole will meet and enlist the help of brilliant virologist Dr. Cassandra "Cassie" Railly (Amanda Schull); the two are brought together because a recording mentioning Cole, that Cassie made after the viral outbreak, is uncovered by Jones in the future time-line, prompting her to select Cole for the mission. Cole will also encounter a seemingly unstable math genius named Jennifer Goines (Emily Hampshire), whose father Cole has been tasked to kill, Cassie's ... Written by ahmetkozan

Trivia

When Jennifer, Cole, Cassandra, and Deacon go back to 1989 to steal and copy the time map, they enter a hotel lobby wearing late 80s era clothing. Cole is wearing the same exact clothes that Marty McFly wears in Back to the Future (1985). See more »

I love this show
5 July 2018 | by scott-1657See all my reviews

I've always been a science fiction fan, and especially like time travel stories. I have followed this from the beginning, and it seems to be one of the best series that the SciFi channel has allowed to play out. (I was really annoyed when they cancelled Dark Matter, and one or two others that I forget now.) I think the cast is excellent: Aaron Stanford is low-key enough to be believable (to me, anyway); Barbara Sukowa is kind of a gem; Amanda Schull, maybe a little less believable than some of the others-especially her fighting skills; and my personal favorite, Emily Hampshire, who took over the Brad Pitt from the movie and brought it into a complete new realm,. She does a great crazy! We're on the cusp of the last three episodes, and I'll be sorry to see it end, but it's never good to drag out shows longer than they should go, and I think this has hit its, er, time window. And when I think about it, how many time travel series have their been on teevee? Back when I was a kid: Time Tunnel (I loved that!), It's About Time (a comedy). I'm sure I'm missing a bunch, but 12 Monkeys stands out in a big way. Admittedly, it can be hard to follow now and again-especially when a new season begins... but I like scripts that make me think. This is one of my favorites.
